For 2017, Walmart wanted to empower every parent and student with the confidence of superheroes. Their brand strategy and brief to us was to: 1. Equip Mom with everything she needs so her kid(s) can rock the new school year 2. Magnify their effectiveness by harnessing the scale of the back-to-school time period and Walmart offerings to drive sales. 3. Fuel their Confidence: Show Mom she can shop like a boss.
Renowned actor and comedian Cedric The Entertainer is the quintessential voice of guidance to help anyone who’s ever been in a jam. Last holiday season, we saw Cedric prove himself to be the hero of his family by ensuring that their celebration would go off without a hitch. For the Back-to-School season, Cedric swoops in and saves the day for his neighbors, hyper Helen and her uncoordinated son, Tommy.

When the holidays roll around it is time for family gatherings, gift giving and good food. We tapped Cedric the Entertainer to bring these dynamics to life in stories that show how he takes on the holidays.
With some help from Walmart, Cedric gives this hectic time of year a shot of humor infused solutions. In three episodes that aired on Television and digitally, the comedian and his family go through super-relatable holiday scenarios that we all know far to well. Each installment covered off specific Walmart holiday initiatives and those cultural nuances—from the uncle’s feature length prayer over the fresh food to the last minute “honey do’s” from the wife. As the inaugural foray into long form content for Walmart, the series may have just created a tradition about...tradition.
